A wheelset refers to the combination of wheels and axle for a railroad vehicle. The structure located under each end of a car, railcar, or locomotive that supports the wheel sets is known as a bogie (or truck in North America). In most North American freight cars, there are typically two bogies, each containing two or three wheel sets, depending on the car type. Short freight cars, however, usually do not have bogies and instead feature just two wheel sets.
